Camellia Healthcare Acquires New Volunteer
Company gives a new opportunity to volunteer KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (June 30, 2015) – Camellia Home Health Knoxville, a branch of the Mississippi-based healthcare company, has acquired a new volunteer: Maggie Smith. Maggie is the daughter of Camellia’s employee Sandra Partilla.
Maggie has Asperger, a form of autism, and being in society has always been a challenge for her. Austism is a mental condition, present from early childhood. Autism provides difficulty in communication and forming relationships with other people. Maggie has never had a job before now, and was uncomfortable speaking to strangers. Sandra had been working the night shift at a hospital because Maggie needed someone home with her at all times.
When Sandra was offered the job with Camellia’s Knoxville office, Maggie was allowed to tag along and volunteer.
“When I came to Camellia, I had the intention of picking up some shifts as a nurse to follow my patients from the hospital, I never dreamed I would take a full-time position,” Sandra said. ”I didn’t even think a day time job was possible.”
The mother and daughter started this past November, Maggie had a desk right beside Sandra’s. Maggie was allowed to help out throughout the offices. In March, Maggie was offered a paid position with Camellia. Lisa Smith, DON, said, “Maggie has blossomed beyond belief! She now plans lunches for us, invites us all out to dinners to unite us, and she speaks confidently and looks us in the eye.”
“[Maggie] is a completely different person now,” Sandra said. “She amazing at her job; she assists with human resources, medical records and is a regular fill in for lunch and breaks for the front desk..I never could have imagined the life my daughter could have had and now I know, because of Camellia, she has a wonderful and bright future ahead.” For additional information about Camellia Healthcare, call 1-877-999-1974 or visit www.camellia.com.
